University of Minnesota Twin Cities

The University of Minnesota Twin Cities (UMNTC) is a land grant flagship university located in Minneapolis and St. Paul Minnesota. As an institution, the university is focused on research and discovery, teaching and learning, and outreach and public service. Among the 17 different schools within the university, there are over 200 undergraduate majors and more than 200 graduate and professional degree programs. As of Spring 2017, there were 29,352 undergraduates and 12,118 graduate students (48,770 total). Of that population, 9,169 students of color and 6,070 international students were enrolled. The UMNTC also boasts a 93.2% first-year retention rate and 65.2% four-year graduation rate.

Within campus settings, the UMNTC funds and supports over 900 student organizations, offering students a wide range of opportunities to be involved on campus. In the communities, UMNTC provides support for students to tackle agricultural, environmental, educational, and health care issues through community engagement opportunities that include research, service learning, internships, volunteering, and campus leadership. Because the UMNTC is situated adjacent to downtown Minneapolis, and because of Minneapolis’s reputation as a sanctuary city, the campus is also surrounded by diverse neighborhoods with access to many UMNTC affiliated cultural centers. Lastly, as an initiative to advance a campus culture that supports equity, inclusion, and community by fostering dialogue, respect, and personal growth, the UMNTC initiated a campus climate workgroup that strives to support a welcoming campus climate for all communities and community members within and surrounding the UMNTC campus.
