I know you used (insert name here) all the time and you loved it so dearly. Technology has a shelf life, accept it and move on, the following items are now living on a farm upstate. Trust me, they are happy running around with all the other apps and software.
No, you cannot visit the farm today but perhaps we can get some ice cream.
Adobe Contribute
Adobe announced that, in an effort to continue to push people towards Creative Cloud, it is discontinuing Adobe Director and Contribute, as well as Shockwave on Mac. The move, which shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise to most, officially marks the end of Macromedia software, the company Adobe acquired in 2005 and subsequently dissolved.

Pop-up Video Boxes (Custom)
These were powered by CeeBox and worked with MediaMill. They required a lot of JavaScript and CSS maintenance, and the U keeps threatening to shut down MediaMill.
Just use Vimeo, you won’t have to write a lick of code. You will love it.

Program Tool
This use to pull course information in from OneStop and displayed it on Web pages. ASR and HHH developed better tools over time and it was time to let this one go. It had a good run.

SharePoint (a.k.a FrontPage)
This free web editing software worked really well on the Windows platform, if you didn’t use all the expensive Microsoft features. With the 2010 release Microsoft ended the free lunch, pay for some features or the software won’t even launch. Combine the sad business practice with the fact that it never ran on Macs and the decision to leave was clear.

Slideshows
Lightroom2 and CeeBox were two ways we used to make webpage slide shows. The slideshow trend fell out of favor as more custom web frameworks came into play. If you really need a slideshow search Google for one that will work with your framework.

Survey Tool (college)
It lived at survey.cehd.umn.edu, nothing else notable to say.
Use Qualtrics for surveys, it is great.

UM Content (a.k.a. Stellent)
Launched in 2006-2007 this never became a viable option for the college due to accessibility issues and lack of Shibboleth support.
Retired by the University in 2013.
UM Survey
It lived at umsurvey.umn.edu, nothing else notable to say.
Use Qualtrics for surveys, it is great.
Retired 2013
Urchin
In April 2010 the college moved to OIT’s new implementation of Google Urchin version 6 and then the U discontinued the service in favor of Google Analytics, which is indeed much better.

UThink Blogs
The libraries blog site built on MovableType was pretty slick. It was easy to set up, modify, and maintain blogs with your University credentials. It enjoyed wide adaption and creative use, many people even used it as a CMS. The creativity, ingenuity, and good work had to be stopped. In early 2013 central OIT announced the end of UThink with a promised December 31, 2014 shut down.
