Headshots

Whether on a profile page or in the news, headshots are a big deal. Here is the process for preparing headshots.

  1. The college communications office hires a photograph to take picture at various college events.
  2. Print ready, high resolution photographs are stored in the college documents folder.
  3. Web ready images are made from the high resolution images and are loaded into the people tool and news blog.
  4. Half the people that had their picture taken at a college event decide they don’t like it, take a selfie with their phone, and request that picture be used instead.
  5. It is up to the parent academic unit to decide if a phone selfie properly represents the department, institution, or school.

Web Ready – 150×225 pixels

Headshots sized to 150 x 225 (because we all agreed this is the size to use a long time ago) are loaded into the “TARDIS” which in turn automatically feeds the People Tool. Sounds creepy eh? All communication leads have access to the TARDIS to directly work with the images, such as replacing a headshot.

Print Ready – High Rez – Big x Huge

Headshots are taken at various times throughout the year by the college communications office. More information about print ready headshots is available on the OCM intranet site.

People Tool Ready – Use the TARDIS

With all of the live applications we maintain, such as blogs and the people tool, we decided to create an easy way to make assets immediately live.

The TARDIS is a directory that shoots assets from your desktop to various live web environments. Please note, the TARDIS is only available to communication leads that oversee major web areas.

Use the TARDIS as you would any other folder on your computer. Just keep in mind as each action is completed, saving, renaming, deleting, etc. that is replicated immediately on a live server. Also you are sharing this editing space with others.

The File Name is Important!

The headshot needs to start with the last name of the person, the people tool looks for the last name as a match to the profile. We recommend using last name, first initial, and then the year the headshot was taken. Like this:

  • AbuzzahabJ-2017.jpg (or)
  • AbuzzahabJ-2017-06-12.jpg (or)
  • AbuzzahabJeff-2017.jpg
You can use the first name for people with common last names… like me!

Don’t use these high-res images on the Web! They are too big… if you edit them in a tool like Photoshop and save for the Web then it is OK.
