People Tool and TARDIS

Developed in 2008, this tool allows us to easily share profile information on CEHD faculty and staff across our websites. Based on the concept of Create Once, Publish Everywhere (COPE), this tool draws base University data and we add more detailed information for each person. This data can then be utilized to various levels on college websites and easily styled with CSS to match the look and feel of each site

Please note: CVs and headshots are stored in the people tool via the TARDIS a directory that shoots assets from your desktop to various live web environments. Also note, the TARDIS is only available to communication leads that oversee major web areas.

Use the TARDIS as you would any other folder on your computer. Just keep in mind as each action is completed, saving, renaming, deleting, etc. that is replicated immediately on a live server. Also you are sharing this editing space with others.

Which People Appear in the Tool?

  • The tool checks for current CEHD employees every 24 hours and adds them to the tool.
  • University faculty and staff employed primarily by a college other than CEHD can be added manually as necessary.
  • Faculty and staff that retire or move primary employment to another college are not removed from the tool. A communication lead can mark their profile as inactive at the appropriate time to keep their name from appearing in feeds and search results.

Information from the University

Some information, such as office address, email, and phone number is pulled in from PeopleSoft and needs to be changed in that system. The responsibility varies by each college unit, and like most University secrets, is revealed by asking around. Seriously! You want to find someone with access to PeopleSoft, probably someone that deals with finances or HR.

A Few Things to Consider

All edits are available to the public immediately when you click the “save changes” button. Consider composing in a word processing program if you need time to work on wording.

Departments and centers may have a certain style of writing or commonly used language. Check with your communication lead for more information.
